The Caribbean Natural Resources Institute (CANARI) is a non-profit organisation registered in St. Lucia, St. Croix and Trinidad and Tobago, with its main office in Port of Spain, Trinidad. It has 501(c) (3) status in the United States and charitable status in Trinidad and Tobago .
CANARI’s geographic focus is the islands of the Caribbean but its research findings are often relevant and disseminated to the wider region.

Forestry stakeholders in the islands of St. Vincent and the Grenadines gained new insight into methods of promoting participation in forest management in 2011, through a project funded by the Food and Agriculture Organization's National Forest Programme Facility (NFPF). See here for more information on this project which devised and tested a range of communication products, some highly interactive.
The Caribbean Natural Resources Institute (CANARI) received a grant from the JB Fernandes Memorial Trust to continue to work with rural communities in Trinidad and Tobago to develop sustainable livelihoods in 2012. See here for more information about the project.

Eleven members of the Blanchisseuse community in north Trinidad worked together in a two-day workshop in early November, to develop a video that told the story of their challenges, how those challenges were affecting the fishers and possible ideas to address those challenges. The participants in this participatory video project were the producers, writers, videographers, narrators and interviewers. See here more information about the project. CANARI is implementing a project in Saint Lucia that will catalyse action by civil society to counteract the negative impacts of climate change. This is being done in partnership with the Saint Lucia National Trust.

The Caribbean Natural Resources Institute (CANARI) was represented at the UNESCO Experts Meeting on Climate Change Education for Sustainable Development and Adaptation in Small Island States, held September 21st-23rd, 2011 in Nassau, Commonwealth of the Bahamas. The International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), which hosts the Green Economy Coalition (GEC) National Dialogues, approached CANARI to facilitate a process for the Caribbean small island developing states as part of this initiative.
